BRIEF
Thanks to the richness of a thousand-year history and the new status, in seven years from now the city of Turkestan will turn into the main tourist center of Kazakhstan with a population of more than 500,000 people. In order to give a big impetus to the development of tourism and to provide comfortable conditions for residents and visitors from all over the world, it is planned to build many new cultural and public buildings. The competition is designed to find and develop unique architectural ideas that will allow to build many unique in their style and design buildings, in a short time. The competition is open to participants from all over the world. In general, the competition is held in 5 categories and 15 nominations. In this case, the winner will be selected for each of the nomination presented. All contestants have equal participation rights and can claim winning in several nominations at the same time. The initiator of the competition is the Administration of the Turkistan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The competition will select the best architectural concepts and sketches for new buildings of the city of Turkistan. During the whole the period, up to November 25, 2018 (11:59 pm Astana time, Kazakhstan), draft designs are accepted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the competition. Participation in the competition is available for both architectural bureaus and individual architects. The winners will receive a cash reward as well as the priority right to conclude a contract for the development of a complete draft project based on the winning work. Architectural bureaus with proven qualifications will also have priority right to develop a working draft for the winning design. Each participant has the right to submit their works for all nominations and has the opportunity to win in several nominations at once. The list of winners will be published on December 1, 2018.
Turkistan is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia. In 2017, Turkestan was elected as the cultural capital of the entire Turk world. In order to preserve the authenticity of the architecture of Turkistan, that was built during a thousand-year history of the city, the solutions proposed within the framework of the competition should be formed as a modern reading of medieval Turk, Islamic and Persian architectures. Meaning that the works submitted by the competitor should be inspired by historical architecture, while carrying modern design and construction solutions. Contestants are not constrained by a strict and limited design framework with the exception of the condition described above. Moreover, the highest appreciation will be earned by the works where the bidder will be able to develop not only the overall architecture of the object, but also offer and substantiate the ideas of filling and efficient use of the building area.
