The “Missing Middle” Competition:
An Opportunity for Smart Metropolitan Densification
BRIEF
The Urbanarium is proposing an open design ideas competition to develop and present exciting options for addressing Metro Vancouver’s affordability challenges with outstanding design and social innovation.
This competition focuses on small interventions. It is not about density alone oreven limited to that silo labeled ‘Architecture.’ We are asking you to consider the sociability and value of neighbourhoods, land and construction costs, rental rates and policy recommendations that bring change to make affordable housing possible. We are focusing at a scale where individuals can act. We hope you will
find multivalent insights and fresh approaches to our wicked problem!
