The Dia al-Azzawi Prize for Public Art – Tamayouz Excellence Award

1. Introduction

The Dia al-Azzawi Prize for Public Art is a biennial award launched in 2021 by the Tamayouz Excellence Award, aiming to recognize and celebrate public art worldwide.

2. Presentation

The prize is named in honor of Iraqi artist Dia al-Azzawi, one of the leading pioneers of modern Arab art. The objective is to recognize artworks that have had a transformative impact on their communities and to support young and emerging artists.

3. About the Project

The award seeks permanent and temporary public art projects of all types, including murals, sculptures, monuments, installations, public spaces, graffiti, architecture, and planning. The works must be exhibited in public spaces and not in private spaces.

4. Schedule

  • November 30, 2026: Registration deadline;
  • December 2026: Judging period;
  • January 2027: Winner announcement.

5. Prizes

  • 1st place: Statue and medal designed by Dia al-Azzawi, plus travel expenses and ticket to the annual ceremony;
  • 2nd place: Medal;
  • 3rd place: Medal.

6. Jury

The jury will evaluate entries holistically, considering conceptual strength, public impact, accessibility, technical resolution, and quality of representation.
