THE SMALL HOUSE OF UNIVERSAL DESIGN AWARD
BRIEF
The Small House of Universal Design Award aims at furthering this concept on a global scale. Universal Design calls out to architects, designers, entrepreneurs, students and all institutions throughout Europe to participate in a competition of a slightly different kind.
On the occasion of 100 years of German Bauhaus, the aim for participants of the award is to design a concept for a small house including the creation of a model, — following Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius’ original definition of a school of building pursuing a “total” work of art through
interdisciplinarity.
Its fundamental themes include a focus on simplifying and furthering artisanal
handicrafts. In a Universal Design, this also means to think of the human as the centre and beginning of all design originating from there. When creating a small house, this means to increase functionality through contemporary design, focused on ideal proportions and needs of the human to live in it.
