BRIEF

The Redress Design Award (formerly the EcoChic Design Award) is the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition. Organised by Redress, the competition works to educate emerging fashion designers around the world about sustainable design theories and techniques in order to drive growth towards a circular fashion system. By putting sustainable design talent in the global spotlight, the competition creates a unique platform for passionate and talented fashion game-changers to transform the global fashion industry and rewards the best with career-changing prizes to maximise long-term impact.

All ten finalists will
Present their sustainable collections at HKTDC Hong Kong’s Fashion Week CENTRESTAGE
Enjoy a whirlwind educational all-expenses paid trip to Hong Kong
Have their designs shot in Hong Kong by a renowned photographer and styled by an influential stylist
Have designs showcased under the international public’s spotlight in an exhibition after the grand final concludes

Orsola de Castro

Fashion Designer, Co-founder of Estethica & Co-founder of Fashion Revolution.

Orsola de Castro is a fashion designer and campaigner. She founded the luxury up-cycling label ‘From Somewhere’ in 1997 and has since created up-cycled collections for niche and mass markets, including Speedo, Tesco and Topshop. In 2006 Orsola co-founded Estethica, an international platform to showcase sustainable brands at London Fashion Week. In 2013, she co-founded Fashion Revolution, the global coalition of academics, designers, organisations and key opinion formers who are demanding increased transparency across the fashion value chain. Orsola is a regular speaker at many universities and gives keynote speeches at various fashion summits around the world.

Denise Ho

Fashion Director, The R Collective

Denise Ho is the globetrotting fashion director of The R Collective. She oversees the brand’s unique, mission driven direction alongside their dynamic fashion designers from her base in Hong Kong. Previously, she successfully developed two fashion brands, including an ethical knitwear brand, from inception to impressive global distribution. Denise is also a stylist for media, brands and celebrities, including the likes of Vanity Fair and Tatler, Adidas, Lane Crawford, Apple and Shanghai Tang, and supermodel and Redress Ambassador, Bonnie Chen. Denise was Redress’ resident stylist for several Redress Design Award cycles, during which she styled many emerging designers’ sustainable collections from shoots, fashion shows to editorials. Her strong ethical and sustainable perspective on fashion positions Denise as one of the region’s leading fashion influencers.
Johanna Ho

Fashion Designer

Johanna Ho is a fashion designer with a strong sustainable fashion philosophy running through her JOHANNA HO brand. Her inaugural collection, following her studies at Central Saint Martins, showed in London Fashion Week in 1998 and was immediately purchased by Barneys New York. Subsequent collections are sold in 40 retailers internationally, including Browns, Selfridges, Harrods in London and Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong, as well as in her flagship store in Hong Kong and various stores in Japan. Johanna has collaborated with various brands, from Vans, Birkenstock to Lane Crawford, and her international celebrity following includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Lana Del Rey and Eason Chen among others. Johanna divides her time between London and Hong Kong.

Queennie Yang

Editor (Asia), Vogue International

Queennie Yang is Editor (Asia) at Vogue International and supports the digital editorial content of Vogue editions across the Asia market, including China, Taiwan and Japan. Prior to joining Vogue, Queennie was one of the founding members and subsequent Managing Editor of BoF China. She also contributes to many other top-tier publications including VOGUE, NUMERO, GQ, ELLE and Modern Weekly as a columnist and fashion critic. Queennie is sought after by many global luxury brands and retailers as an expert fashion consultant.

Marieke Eyskoot

Author, Consultant & Co-founder of MINT

Marieke Eyskoot is an author, consultant and sustainable fashion and lifestyle expert, who has been involved in developing a better garment industry for over 15 years. She wrote ‘THIS IS A GOOD GUIDE – for a sustainable lifestyle’ (available in English from Spring 2018), which offers consumers practical and positive tips whilst proving that style and sustainability go hand in hand. Marieke is co-founder of fair fashion tradeshow MINT and is known for bringing several leading international sustainable brands to the Benelux. She worked as part of the Clean Clothes Campaign, to promote better working conditions in the global garment industry. Chosen in newspaper Trouw’s Sustainable People Top 100 and trade journal Textilia’s Fashion Powerlist Top 100, Marieke is consistently highlighted as a leader in sustainable fashion and lifestyle by magazines such as Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire.

Holly Mcquillan

Fashion Designer & Author

Holly McQuillan is a consultant, designer, writer and researcher who primarily works in the field of sustainable design practice. Holly is a leader in the field of zero-waste fashion – curating and designing for exhibitions and the industry, as well as co-authoring ‘Zero Waste Fashion Design’, published in 2016 by Bloomsbury. After completing her Master of Design at Massey University in 2005, Holly worked in education and as a consultant for industry, supporting major companies in their zero waste goals. She is currently undertaking a PhD at the Swedish School of Textiles.
Clare Press

Podcaster, and Sustainability Editor-at-Large at Vogue Australia

Clare Press is one of Australia’s most respected fashion journalists, and a leading voice in ethical fashion. In 2018 she became Australian Vogue’s first ever sustainability editor. She previously held the position of fashion editor-at-large at Marie Claire and has written widely for titles including Harper’s Bazaar, the Sydney Morning Herald and Fashionista. Clare is the author of Wardrobe Crisis, How We Went from Sunday Best to Fast Fashion and presents the podcast of the same name. On the weekly Wardrobe Crisis show, she interviews designers, creatives and change-makers about ethical and sustainable fashion.
