Kimball Design Hack

A Smart Furniture Design Competition

BRIEF

As the Internet of Things (IoT) and the digital transformation continues to influence both the home and the workplace, interior designers face challenges of furniture integrating these new “smart” technologies to support this transformation. To meet these challenges, Kimball is inviting you to enter our Smart Furniture DESIGN HACK.

The Kimball Design Hack is an opportunity for you to provide design concepts that will leverage technology that will allow users to be more productive, improve the overall work-life of employees by adding convenience and/or solving other typical workplace challenges.

Your design(s) (yes, you can enter more than once) should integrate materials and technology (whether known today or unknown) thereby, transforming the capability of the furniture.

Examples might include, but are not limited to, lighting, smart films, heat, vibration, motion, voice activation, sound, etc. Designers are encouraged to take into consideration submissions that could provide satisfaction, comfort, engagement, health, wellness or wellbeing.

SCHEDULE

The Competition begins on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 12am Eastern Time (ET) and ends on Monday, April 30, 2018, 11:59 PM ET (“Competition Period”). All entries (submissions) must be received during the Competition Period, to be eligible to win.

AWARDS

The Winner will receive a 3% royalty up to $30,000 but no less than $5,000.

The winning design must be able to be mass produced, scalable and saleable. In other words, something the market wants and is willing to pay for.

FEES

There is no cost to enter.
