DETAIL Prize 2018
BRIEF
Competition announcement
This year, in addition to the main prize, the two special prizes, DETAIL inside and structure – powered by DETAIL, will also be awarded in reflection of the two new formats of the DETAIL journal. The judges are looking for realizations in which the overall design concept and the detailing are brought together in a coherent way. The DETAIL Prize awards future-oriented, innovative projects from different disciplines that go beyond the established standard. They should display outstanding architectural and technical qualities and offer solutions of the type generally seen in the DETAIL journal.
Setting international standards
As in previous years, DETAIL once again expects to receive 350 to 400 entries from more than 40 countries. Projects of all building types and completed anywhere in the world after 01 January 2015 are eligible to compete for the DETAIL Prize 2018. Construction projects for new buildings, renovations, conversions and extensions may all be submitted. Architects, structural engineers, interior designers, designers and specialist engineers are all eligible to compete.
Awarding architectural quality
In a first step, the DETAIL editorial team nominates the most impressive projects from all the submissions. In a second step, a top-class and international jury of experts selects the winners of the DETAIL Prize 2018 from the nominations and assigns them to the various categories. Also on offer will be the DETAIL Readers’ Prize, the winner of which will be decided by the DETAIL readership by means of an online vote.
Celebrating architecture
At a public award-ceremony to be held in November 2018 in Munich, the three winning projects for the main prize and the prize-winning projects for the other categories will be presented by the respective offices. The winning projects of the DETAIL Prize 2018 will also be presented at BAU 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, in Munich in January 2019.
