The History of Construction

BRIEF

Over recent decades, the history of construction has established itself as a fertile ground for
research thanks to the work that has been carried out by different disciplines in organizations
such as the Construction History Society in England and the Spanish Society for the History of
Construction (SEHC for its acronym in Spanish). The growing Latin American interest has re-
cently promoted the organization to sponsor two Hispano-American conferences on the history
of construction as well as similar events that have been held locally in Mexico, Chile, Brazil;
there is an event planned in Colombia for the end of 2018.
1 For the purposes of this call for papers, the history of construction should be understood as the
study of the way in which man has materialized his intentions to transform his surroundings.
As such, the thematic scope is not only limited to buildings or particular historical monuments.
The dearq issue that is the subject of this call for papers is looking to gather a selection of pa-
pers that are to be presented in the Colombian Conference on the History of Construction and
draw attention to recent research in the area. However, it also seeks to construct a revision of
the field within a Latin American context. As such, we are particularly interested in articles that
address the history of construction from comparative, integrated, interdisciplinary, and histo-
riographical perspectives as well as assessments of research output and summaries of books,
exhibitions, and events.
