IBIZA ARTIST HOUSE

BRIEF

INTRODUCTION

THE HIDDEN IBIZA

For many people Ibiza is synonymous to party, fun and nightlife, and in

a way it is true, since the island of Ibiza has become in recent years a

focus of “night tourism” looking to enjoy in pubs , discos and beach bars on

the beach. At the same time of this reality of tourism, Ibiza has been and

always will be a pole of attraction of a tourism of relaxation, of enjoyment

of beaches, coves, landscape and nature, and this affirmation is totally true.

The island of Ibiza makes a place where the clear waters, the white sand

and red corals are constant. In previous rethinking competitions where the

landscape was key we asked ourselves how we can intervene without

outshining it. That balance, that delicate line is what we propose to re-

explore since this place can be considered an enclave so spectacular, very

meaningful, where water, nature, cliffs and architecture make this “Island of

hidden landscape” a unique enclave.

WHAT ARCHITECTURE SAYS ABOUT THIS?

This is an exercise of reflection. We can, on the one hand, hide, camouflage

ourselves and make our presence a mere rock that stands in the landscape.

We can also discover the landscape, that our intervention involves

rediscovering new views in the landscape but without ceasing to think that

we, or rather, our architecture is not important in the intervention. On the

other hand, we can do the opposite, consider that architecture must be

seen, in order to rediscover we must risk, and to risk we must explore, and

to explore we must conquer.

Hide, camouflage, take off your head or invade. They are not the only

options, of course, but they are generally the most used. It will be the

contestant who rediscovers new forms, new architectures, new ways of

creating, thinking, reflecting and that is the beauty of these contests where

there is nothing written to dialogue with the landscape.

PIRATE TOWER

Sunsets occur every day since the world is world, and the world never

tires of contemplating them or finding the best places to do so. In Ibiza this

search ended 80 years ago, when the first tourists discovered the Pirate

tower.

The pirate tower, in Ibiza, is one of the most famous defensive constructions

on the island, which every year attracts hundreds of tourists who want to

visit the well-known defense tower. Its true name is the Torre de Es Savinar

or Cap d’es Jueu, and it is the highest tower in Ibiza, although its main

attraction is that from the top of the tower you can enjoy a unique view of

the islet of Es Vedrà and It is Vedranell, and you can even see the massif of

Montgó de Denia on the clearest days.

Being a defensive construction, the area has cliffs, areas with a softer slope

and last areas in direct contact with the sea in its lower part, exactly the

lower bay. That is why the place of intervention to develop the proposal

will be totally free where the contestant must choose how to settle their

architecture and get the most out of the place by choosing what kind of

strategy to follow.

Absolute freedom sometimes scares but this decision should be taken as

an absolute degree of freedom but at the same time of some risk, since as

we have previously told in a delicate landscape, with a great landscape

potential where the concept of limit, the horizon, the detail, the earthly, the

vegetation, the pre-existence, .. should be put on a scale and try to balance,

as it is said, virtue.

PROGRAM

• It is the fact that this place is one of the most inspiring that we can

find on the island, the reason why it has been decided that it is an

ideal point to develop a home conceived as a space of relaxation,

of inner peace where culture, passion, art can flow thanks to the

architecture that is proposed. Being a point of visual, musical or

physical creation for an artist (architect, musician, poet, painter, ..).

The proposal can be conceived as an occasional refuge-house or

as a permanent home for its inhabitant. That is why the contestant

will decide on the one hand the profession of his tenant, then decide

the exact location of the house and finally the program, taking

into account that they must develop at least the following spaces:

• 1 room – studio – living room – dining room

• 1 viewpoint

• 1 bathroom
