BRIEF
Nothing can stop Arquitecturas Film Festival. On January 10th 2018, we announced our Call for Entries for the 6th edition of the Arquitecturas, with the screening of “Aires Mateus: Matter in Reverse”, at Cinema São Jorge, dedicated to the work of the well-known architecture studio.
In this edition, we think about fiction. Arquitecturas, a festival known for its focus on the documental moving image about architecture, now opens its doors to fictional work. The selected films will compete in four distinct categories – Fiction, Documentary, Experimental and New Talent, to which we add and award given by the public through direct polling. This year the festival will happen from the 6th till the 10th of June 2018, and will have as theme “Learning from Fiction”.
The telling of stories is an ancient and fundamental cultural technique, and also has a function within the city – does it prevent humans from seeing what really should be seen, or does it bring light to reality? The 6th edition of Arquitecturas will explore how the narrative form in fictional cinema has depicted architecture since the beginning of film history. And what have we been learning from the futuristic, utopian or hyperrealist fictional stories that have been shaping our visual culture through cinema?
