Architecture at Zero 2026

Introduction
Architecture at Zero is a design competition for decarbonization, equity, and resilience, open to students and professionals from all over the world. The objective is to engage the fields of architecture, design, engineering, and planning in the pursuit of sustainable design.

The competition is an opportunity for participants to design the La Plaza Cultural Center, a cultural and educational center that will be transformed into a resilience asset during regional emergencies, providing critical support for evacuees, first responders, and multi-agency operations.
About the Project
The project is a partnership between Southern California Edison (SCE), Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), and The American Institute of Architects California (AIA CA). The competition is funded by California utility customers and administered by SCE, PG&E, and SoCalGas under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
