Competition CJ Center
1. Introduction
The international architecture competition “Christo and Jeanne-Claude Contemporary Art Center” aims to find the best architectural solution for the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Contemporary Art Center, located in Gabrovo, Bulgaria.
2. Presentation
The center is a space not only for exhibiting art, but also for creating it, inspiring artists and the general public alike. The architecture of this space requires a bold vision, sensitivity, and deep understanding.
3. About the Project
The project aims to transform and adapt the former Textile Technical School building and its adjacent grounds. The building has a constructed area of 2,737 m² and a gross area of 13,300 m², with a courtyard of 9,000 m².
4. Schedule
- July 20, 2026: Deadline for submitting conceptual projects in the centralized automated information system for electronic public procurement (CAIS EPP)
- August 10, 2026: Announcement of results; the top five ranked projects receive awards
- August 23, 2026: Announcement of the second stage: negotiation procedure without prior notice; invitations to participate are sent to the five awarded projects from the previous stage
- October 23, 2026: Deadline for submitting offers (including design development) in the negotiation procedure
- November 10, 2026: Announcement of the winner of the design contract
- March 25, 2027: Submission of the detailed investment project (construction documents)
- October 2028: Final deadline for completing the renovation, construction, furnishing, equipment, and implementation of permanent exhibition projects
5. Awards
- The five finalists of the first stage will receive a cash prize of EUR 20,000, excluding value-added tax (VAT)
- The winner of the second stage will receive a design contract with a maximum value of EUR 1,000,000, excluding VAT, for the preparation of the investment project (construction documents, including interior design and permanent exhibition design)
- The value of construction and installation works, furniture, and equipment is up to EUR 11,261,103, excluding VAT
