Rome Rain Rooms International Architecture Competition

1. Introduction

The Rome Rain Rooms competition is an opportunity for architects, designers, and visionaries worldwide to rethink how cities deal with water. The goal is to transform heavy rainfall into civic rituals, making rain a shared experience and a sustainable resource.

2. Presentation

The competition is a strategic partnership between Buildner and ArchDaily, aiming to explore “The Contemporary Home.” The competition is open to everyone, with no professional qualification restrictions. Design proposals may be developed individually or by teams of up to four members.

3. About the Project

The competition challenges participants to design small, reversible pavilions that collect and store rainwater while providing comfort and enjoyment to the public. Each “rain room” must collect at least 5 cubic meters of water per storm and redirect it to areas where it is most needed—such as neighborhood trees, gardens, or non-potable water fountains.
