28th International Sculpture Conference

CALL FOR PANELS

BRIEF

The International Sculpture Center is seeking a diverse and comprehensive program, covering topics relevant to sculpture today, at the 28th International Sculpture Conference on October 25-28, 2018.

All panel proposals must be submitted electronically via the form on the ISC website. No faxed, mailed, or emailed abstracts will be accepted.

The deadline for submissions is March 12, 2018. All late proposals will automatically be placed on a waiting list.

The year’s conference will focus on topics in contemporary sculpture and proposals submitted should fall into the below categories. We are looking for panels which explore the following topics and ideas:

Body and Context
This topic will explore work that uses the body – either the human body or the social body – to explore and understand facets of identity and action.

Reimagining Monuments – Old and New
What is the future of monuments? How can we make the language of monuments more inclusive? This topic will evoke discussions on the legacy, preservation, and rethinking of monuments.

Working to Strengthen and Engage the Civic Commons
What are ways artists can encourage engagement with existing community members? Can art and/or creative projects create value and pride within communities?

Art and Science
This topic will explore the intersections between art and science, and include art and artists that pull inspiration and influence from various aspects of science-based study and technology.

Affect and Effect: Sculpture in Politics and Freedom
How does sculpture address the political landscape, promote change, and empower? How can sculpture be a form of activism?

Artist-Run and Collaborative Spaces
There has been a rise in the number of artist-run and collaborative gallery spaces. What are some of the advantages? What are some of the challenges?

Sculpture, Archives, and Collections
What drives someone to collect? How can someone be informed or inspired by archives and collections?

The Current and Future State of Sculpture and Sculptural Education
What makes sculpture today? How is this communicated to the “next generation”? How is this translated to the larger sculptural community? How are audiences integral to the meaning of the work?

Artist Projects and Workshops
Artists and organizations who are interested in a project or workshop that takes place in line with the conference should submit to this category.

Wildcard
Any other topics in contemporary sculpture.
